MOUNTAIN RESCUE COMMITTEE of SCOTLAND AWARDS CONTRACT TO RADIO TELECOM SERVICES LTD FOR COMMUNICATIONS MAINTENANCE
The Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland (MRC of S) announced that it has awarded a contract to Radio Telecom Services Ltd (RTS), headquartered in Livingston, West Lothian, to perform all maintenance and upgrades required on their radio system terminals and infrastructure for the next five years. The contract will be effective from January 2010.
RTS, a radio-communications support company with extensive experience supplying, installing and maintaining radio systems and products for the Emergency Services and other major markets throughout the U.K.
The contract will focus on providing a comprehensive support service to a wide range of equipment and locations including portables, mobiles, base stations and vehicles and their interoperability. The contract will also include any reconfiguration due to policy and legislation changes and RTS will partner MRC of S in an advisory capacity regarding ongoing development support to the next generation of Mountain Rescue Communications needs and requirements. In 2009, the Mountain Rescue Committee conducted a rigorous analysis of their requirements to maintain a reliable stand alone VHF radio system, robust enough to operate in the most challenging of conditions. Based on current experience, but cognisant of the changing world of communications, the analysis indicated an extension of the life of the existing equipment which means that all radios require to be examined and reprogrammed whilst ensuring every teams capability is not compromised during the process.
The contract was awarded through a competitive bid process.
James Coles, the Radio Officer for the MRC of S explained that national changes to the UK Land Search and Rescue band plan required a reprogram of all radios in use across Scotland. The MRC of S needed a partner to assist with this and look after the radio fleet on an ongoing basis. Value for money, capability and experience were key in the evaluation of partners and the MRC of S looks forward to working with RTS to ensure that Mountain Rescue Communications are maintained into the future.
